After his military service, Alec continued working in aircraft maintenance with Lockheed Martin for one and a half years before transitioning into the IT field. In October of 1996, he joined Hi-Tech Services, where he provided computer and network services for seven years.

With a strong background in technical systems, diagnostics, and structured problem-solving, Alec built Computer Guy to provide reliable, business-focused IT services grounded in real-world experience and long-term reliability.

Serving Rapid City and the Black Hills Since 2003

As a long-standing local business, Computer Guy understands the technology challenges faced by small businesses in Rapid City and surrounding communities. Support is provided throughout the Black Hills, including Sturgis, Spearfish, Deadwood, Lead, and Belle Fourche. Being locally based means businesses receive direct support without call centers, outsourced technicians, or third-party providers. Clients work with someone who understands their systems, their environment, and their ongoing needs.

Technology Services Built Around Reliability

Computer Guy provides a range of small business IT services, including managed IT services, computer security, backup and business continuity, business phone systems, networking, and on-site and remote IT support.

All services are delivered with a focus on long-term reliability rather than short-term fixes. The goal is to prevent issues before they disrupt operations, while also providing responsive support when assistance is needed.

Technology solutions are selected and implemented based on how businesses actually work, ensuring systems remain stable, secure, and manageable over time.

A Practical Approach to Small Business IT

Small businesses need IT solutions that work reliably without unnecessary complexity. Computer Guy takes a practical, business-first approach to IT support, focusing on clear communication, realistic recommendations, and systems that are easy to maintain over time. The goal is to support daily operations without introducing tools or processes that complicate workflows. Rather than overselling technology or pushing unnecessary services, recommendations are made based on what best supports the business environment. This includes evaluating how systems are actually used, identifying pain points, and applying solutions that improve stability and efficiency.

This practical approach helps businesses:

  • Avoid wasted spending on unused or unnecessary technology

  • Maintain systems that are easier to manage and support

  • Reduce recurring issues caused by overly complex setups

  • Build an IT environment that supports long-term growth

By keeping IT solutions aligned with real operational needs, businesses benefit from dependable systems that grow with them instead of holding them back.

Appointment-Based, Professional IT Support

All services are provided by appointment to ensure focused, professional IT support for each business environment. Appointment-based service allows time for proper planning, accurate diagnosis, and thorough resolution of issues rather than rushed or incomplete fixes.

This approach helps ensure:

  • Issues are addressed correctly the first time

  • Business environments receive undivided attention

  • Service is delivered in a structured and predictable manner

  • Ongoing system stability is maintained

Support is provided both remotely and on-site, depending on the nature of the issue. Remote support allows many problems to be resolved quickly, while on-site service is available when hands-on assistance is required. This flexibility ensures businesses receive timely support while still benefiting from in-person service when necessary.
